3 Key items to grow.
The key is to start by using the key ingredients growing plan to provide all the essential ‘basic’ ingredients.
But in addition also grow:
- Tomatillo Tomatoes
- Poblano, Habaner and/or Jalanpeno Peppers

The 3 key Mexican ingredients to grow:
1. Tomatillo tomatoes
Often called Mexican green tomatoes they are completely different from the regular tomatoes you will find in most shops, and a key element to many Mexican meals.
They are a lot smaller than regular tomatoes (often called Mexican husk tomatoes) and taste a bit like a green apple with a citrusy flavour. (More details on tomatillo)
A key ingredient in salsa verde they can be used in recipes as diverse as ‘green alcoholic cocktails’ to desserts, jams and even as a sidedish. The video below shows an example of how to use it:

2. Poblano, Habaner and/or Jalanpeno peppers.
If you are cooking mexican meals then peppers need to be a core item in your ingredient range.

3. Lemongrass
