Sweet apple mint tea
Whether made hot or iced the sweet apple mint tea will have a lovely sweet, fresh flavour:
- Made using fresh apple mint, green tea and honey.
- Mint is great for your health – digestion, immunity, stress, etc.
- But the flavour is ideal when combined with green tea.
The recipe below used apple mint, but you can always experiment with different types of mint. Each type will give the tea a different, unique flavour.
Morocco Cuisine
This tea is part of my country recipe challenge – where this week Morocco was the selected country.
Even though located in Africa the Morocco cuisine is much more Arab style than African. (Wikipedia)
The dish most people associate with Morocco tends to be couscous, but given the number of naturally occurring herbs & spices there are many more interesting foods & recipes.
Yes, there are lots of lamb and chicken dishes.
But the one common theme I tended to spot was ‘sweet, sweet and sweet…..’ Many drinks, desserts, snacks, etc are very, very sweet.
Which is why the Morocco mint tea was the obvious one to make. However, I used fresh homegrown apple mint – simply because the flavour is lovely when combined with honey. Whether in tea or even sauces.
How to make sweet apple mint tea
Ingredients:
- 4 cups water (1 litre)
- 2 green tea bags
- 1 cup apple mint (30 g)
- 2 tbsp honey (or 4 tbsp sugar)
Equipment
- 1 Tea pot
- 1 Jug
Instructions
- Pick the apple mint and remove the leaves.
- Put the teabags in the tea pot and add a little bit of boiling water and swirl the pot – to start letting the flavour release.
- Then add the mint leaves and honey
- Pour all the boiling water on top and let stew for 10 minutes
- Then pour the tea into a jug and then put it back in the pot
- Then pour the tea back in the jug from as high as you can manage. So that you get a nice layer of froth on top – check if it’s sweet enough and add some more honey if needed.
- Repeat this twice and enjoy the tea
How to make iced sweet apple mint tea
The tea is lovely hot or cold.
To make an iced sweet apple mint tea simply let it cool in a fridge.
When cold pour it over an ice cubed filled glass and enjoy.
Different types of mint
This recipe used apple mint (which is not often found in shops). It’s very easy to grow but if you can’t get then there is nothing to stop you experimenting with different mint types
How to grow apple mint at home
It is a very easily grown plant, it succeeds in most soils and situations so long as the soil is not too dry.
Seed or Plant?
In addition it is probably safer to start it using either a ready made plant, cutting or a plug plant. The reason is that mint is one of the herbs which is highly variable – and even using seeds from a reputable supplier you might still end up with a different type then the one you were hoping to grow.
Quick guide:
- Plant in individual pots
- Optimal growing temperature is 15 to 20 ºC
- And full sunlight or high levels of artificial light.
- Available on Amazon
