When you grow orange thyme it will have small aromatic green leaves with a lovely citrus smell. And can be used in any recipes to give a lovely citrus thyme aroma.

How to grow orange thyme at home

The orange thyme plants & seeds are very easy to grow. The downside is that it can take upto 1 year to be established (so you can harvest it) but after that it just keeps going.

Thyme tends to be best suited to well drained soil and full sun.

This is why it’s ideal for growing either using soil or hydroponics on a balcony (if it’s sunny) or using a kitchen hydroponic or aquaponic kit with back up lighting.

If using soil

  • Sow the seeds thinly into moist warm soil
  • Cover slighly – will germinate 7 to 21 days
  • Thin to 30 cm between plants.

Using Hydronics or Aquaponics

  • Thyme is ideal for hydroponics or aquaponics
  • Takes about 5 to 7 weeks before harvesting
  • You can speed this up by planting cuttings

The plants will grow to 20cm tall and makes good ground cover and for border edges. It will also looks good in containers and hanging baskets.

It has pale pink coloured flowers in the summer that are excellent for bees. Supplied in a 9cm pot with colour label.

    Lovely flavour and a great ingredient. Only reason I haven’t scored it higher is that it takes such a long time to grow
